Jedburgh Golf Course risks

Jedburgh is quite a hilly course in places so buggy drivers should take great care particularly when crossing slopes at an angle.  Where necessary, buggies are directed to follow a specific course to minimise the risks.

Many holes are parallel to each other and some shots cross other fairways.  However, the course is fairly open so it is possible to see other golfers and be aware of their actions.  It is an individual golfer’s responsibility to play only when it is safe to do so.

All holes are described  looking  from the tee to the green

1^st hole

First half of fairway fairly steep down the ditch crossing the fairway.

Be aware of golfers playing the 3^rd hole.

Bridges must be used to cross the ditch.

Second half of fairway, potential for being hit by balls driven from the 17^th tee.

Green located close to 17^th tee

2^nd hole

As you walk from the 1^st green to the 2^nd tee be aware of the group in front driving from the 2^nd tee.

Also be aware of players driving from the  16^th tee or playing from the 16^th fairway as the 16^th green is close to the 2^nd tee.

There is a well-used road behind the 2^nd and alongside the right hand side of the 2^nd fairway.

Be aware of players on 1the 1^st green or the group behind walking to the 2^nd tee.

3^rd hole

Out of bounds along the right hand side of the hole with a well-used road behind the hedge parallel to the fairway.

Fairly steep hill from the tee until the fairway flattens out.

The Clubhouse and car park are situated behind the 3rd green.

Be aware of golfers and wayward shots from the 1^st tee and fairway.

4^th hole

Out of bounds over the wall down the right hand side of the fairway.

Ditch crosses the fairway just in front of the 4^th tee.

Cross the ditch using the bridge.

Out of bounds also over the wall behind the 4^th green where there is a footpath.

5^th hole

Shots from the Gents medal tee cross the 4^th and 18^th fairways, so be aware of golfers on both these holes.  Shots from the Gents yellow tees and from the ladies tee also cross the 19^th fairway.

The 5^th fairway runs parallel to the 17^th fairway in the opposite directions.  For a part of the fairway there is a ditch between the holes.  Be aware of players on the 17^th fairway.

The 15^th tee is not far from the right hand side of the 5^th fairway.

The 5^th green is not far from the 1^st green with the outside possibility of stray shots coming onto the 5^th fairway.

6^th hole

The walk from the 5^th green to the 6^th tee crosses the 15^th fairway not far from the 15^th tee, so be aware of players on the 15^th tee.

There is a ditch crossing the 6^th fairway.

There are significant patches of gorse to the right of the first part of the 6^th fairway.

Be aware of players on the 7^th hole.

There is a road behind the 6^th green – the wall behind the green forms the boundary of the course.

Take care on steep approach to the 6^th green.

7^th hole

There is a small pond at the front of the 7^th green (?)

Be aware of players on the 6^th fairway when driving from the 7^th tee.

8^th hole

Players should take the designated path from the 7^th green to the 8^th tee.

There is a pond in front of the 8^th green.  Players should not enter the pond to look for balls.

Access the 8^th green by passing to the left of the pond.

There are significant areas of gorse alongside both sides of the 8^th fairway.

9^th hole

There is a ditch crossing the 9^th fairway.  Golfers should use the bridges to cross the ditch.

Be aware of golfers and buggy drivers on the 10^th who take the long route round the valley to get onto the second part of the 10^th fairway.  They will pass close to the 8^th fairway.

There is a steepish climb up to the 9^th green.

10^th hole

There is a very steep slope from the 9^th green to the 10^th tee.  Buggy drivers should take particular care and follow any signed route.

There is steep up and down on the direct route from tee to green.  Buggies should take to loner route down towards the 9^th tee and then left on to the second part of the 10^th fairway.

There is a steep slope up from the bottom of the dip to the 10^th green.

Behind the 10^th green there may be golfers walking from the 12^th green to the 13^th tee.

11th hole

Over the wall to the right of the 11^th fairway is out of bounds.  There is a footpath on the far side of that wall running parallel to the fairway.

The path from the 12^th green to the 13^th tee passes in front of the 11^th tee.  Be aware of players taking that path.

The 11^th fairway runs parallel to and in the opposite direction to the 12th fairway.  Be aware of players on the 12^th fairway.

12^th hole

The fairway runs parallel to and in the opposite direction to the 11^th fairway. Be aware of players on the 11^th fairway.

The wall or fence to the right of the 11th fairway forms a boundary of the course.

When leaving the 12 green to go to the 13^th tee be aware of golfers on the 11^th tee and players approaching the 10^th green.

13^th hole

The wall to the left of the 13^th fairway forms a boundary of the course.  There is a footpath parallel to and just over the wall.

The fairway slopes quite steeply down towards the green.  Take care when driving a buggy.

There is a deep pond in front of the 13^th green.  Do not enter the pond to look for balls.

Approach the 13^th green to the right of the pond.

14^th hole

The 14^th tee is fairly close to the 18^th medal tee so be aware of players on the 18^th tee.

The area in front of the 14^th tee can be quite damp; take care in wet conditions.

15^th hole

When walking to the 15^th tee from the 14^th green take great care when passing through the wall to be aware of possible drives from the 15^th tee.  If there are players on the 15^th green, golfers coming from the 14^th green should wait till the tee is clear before going to the tee.

The fairway on the 15^th is fairly steep uphill.

There is a road behind the 15^th green.

Be aware of golfers on the 16^th tee.

16^th hole

The wall to the right of the 16^th fairway forms a boundary of the course.  Behind the wall there is a road.

The 16^th green is very close to 1^st green and the 2^nd tee.  Be aware of golfers walking from the 1^st green to the 2^nd tee and golfers driving off the 2^nd tee.

17^th hole

The 17^th tee is very close to the 1^st green and the drive is down a fairway shared by the 1^st and the 17^th.  Players on 1^st will be walking towards the 17^th tee.  Do not drive until it is safe to do so.

The second half of the 17^th fairway runs parallel to and in the opposite direction to the 5^th fairway.  Be aware of players on the 5^th.

There are a number of ditches parallel to or crossing the 17^th fairway.  Cross the ditches using the bridges provided.

18^th hole

The walk from the 17^th green to the 18^th tee crosses the 5^th fairway.  Be aware of players driving from either of the tees on the 5^th.  Cross the ditch by bridge.

The drive from the 18^th tee crosses the 5^th fairway.  Only drive when it is safe to do so.

The 18^th fairway is fairly steep uphill and comes within range of wayward shots from the 4^th and 1^st tees so be aware of golfers on these holes.

The Clubhouse is immediately behind the 18^th green.
